Readme.txt ---------- WineCalc -------- Version 2.40 The Home Winemaking Page http://www.geocities.com/mipeman Michiel Pesgens mipeman@yahoo.com Description ----------- WineCalc is a helper application of The Home Winemaking Page. It can be used to: · Calculate the amount of sugar that needs to be added to archieve a particular target SG or alcohol content in the finished wine. · Calculate the SG or alcohol content that is abtained by adding a particular amount of sugar to the must. · Calculate acidity adjustments. · Calculate the proportions, in which to blend two wines. · Convert various measurements between the Metric, US and Imperial systems. Operating systems ----------------- Windows 95 - Tested, OK Windows 98 - Tested, OK Windows NT - Tested, OK Windows 2000 - Not tested, but should work OK Windows ME - Not tested, but should work OK Windows XP - Tested, OK What is it for? --------------- Before starting a fermentation, it is common to set yourself a target for the finished wine, a specific alcohol content, or a specific gravity (SG) to start from. These parameters can be typed into WineCalc. WineCalc's calculations are based on the "Sugar and Alcohol", "Acids" and "Conversion Tables" chapters of the Home Winemaking Book / Page. It uses several linear data-fits on the hydrometer table's data to perform the sugar calculations, together with a compensation for volume increase due to sugar addition, and the Pearson square for the blending calculations. It should make these calculations easier, since you don't need to perform them all by hand, and have them all in one program. Of course you should still understand what the principles of the calculations are.
